Although I had heard of Beretta, until recently I was unaware that the Fabricca D’Armi Pietro Beretta S.p.A. is one of the oldest arms manufacturers in existence, having been in Italy since the 1500′s. From what I understand, there is a rumor going around that the IOR (Institute for Works of Religion), which is commonly known as the Vatican Bank, is the second largest shareholder of the arms manufacturer. I can’t really tell if this rumor is true or not, there are conflicting stories floating around, and they’re all in Italian.

I don’t know whether this rumor is true or not, although I wouldn’t exactly be shocked to learn that the Vatican is invested in a major arms dealer. All I know is that this picture says a lot for itself:

“The Vatican Bank is a major shareholder in the Beretta arms manufacturing corporation. Here, a bishop with a weapon. ”
