Beyoncé may hold a slew of stans in her court, and she’s even got a fly named after her. Now Bey has got a college course all about her. Kevin Allred is a professor of women’s studies at Rutgers university where he teaches the course “Politicizing Beyoncé.”
Bey’s works as an artist have allowed her to be the focal point in a class that’s solely devoted to exploring the mark she has made for women as a unit.
“…music and career are used as lenses to explore American race, gender, and sexual politics. Allred pairs Beyoncé’s music videos and lyrics with readings from the Black feminist canon, including the writings of bell hooks, Alice Walker, and even abolitionist Sojourner Truth.”
Her course came after hubby Jay-Z got his own course about his provocative works in the world– and it’s even more proof that these two really are running things.
Allred wants to provoke thought in his beliefs that “it’s important to shift students away from simply being consumers of media toward thinking more critically about what they’re engaging on a regular basis.”
Before we know it, there will be a pre-natal class based on Blue Ivy Carter…
